Introduction:
Forensic Anthropology is a sub – field of
physical Anthropology ( the study of human remains) that involves applying
skeletal analysis and techniques in archaeology to solve criminal cases. When
human remains or a suspected burial are found, Forensic archaeologist are
called upon to gather information from the bones and their recovery context to
determine who died, how they died, and how long ago they died.
·
Forensic archaeologist work to determine the
age, sex, ancestry , stature and unique feature of the skeleton. At time, they
rely on descendants to provide information about the deceased.
·
A forensic archaeologist may provide basic
identification information on skeletonized or badly decomposed remains.
·
From a
whole bone or part of a bone, the scientist may be able to determine an age
range, sex, race, approximate height, cause of death, disease etc.
·
The shape of the pelvic bone provides the best
evidence for the gender of the person.
·
Abnormal
changes in the shape, size and density of the bone can indicate disease or
trauma.
Hence, I would like to conclude
that forensic archaeologist can read the evidence in skeleton like we read a
book. In fact the human body never lie. When forensic team finds new techniques
in solving criminal offences, the human body and science, knowingly or unknowingly
contributes its part as well.
