Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy, a famous forensic scientist and a founding member of HELIK, is a good scientist, an ethical principles individual, and a perfect blend of democratic and representative leadership. Her mission and dream was to make forensic science and its applications available to people. She used her 35 years of experience in the field of forensic science to help ordinary people live in a crime-free society. During her career, she has made significant changes to the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory of the Maharashtra government, including the upgrading of six world-class FSLs and the formation of two extra regional labs in Nasik in 2004 and Amravati in 2008. She graduated from Mumbai University with a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (Chromatographic Analysis of Narcotic Drugs) in 1997, and then went further to complete her MBA (HR). She was awarded a merged National Fellowship to study narcotic drugs in biological fluids. Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthywas Awarded by Stree Ratna awards by Fine Arts Society in 2019. To fight the latest Techno-Crime in Mumbai, she established 21 Mobile Forensic Labs at the district level for better Crime Scene Management, and she established new techniques such as DNA, Cyber Forensic, Speaker Identification, Tape Authentication, Lie Detection, Narco-analysis, Brain Signature Profiling, and Forensic Clinical Toxicology. “Introduction to Forensic Science in Crime Investigation with an Attention on Crime Scene Management” and “Forensic Biology” are two of her books. She has published over 100 research papers in both national and international journals. She has travelled to many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China, and has brought the best forensic science techniques from these countries to India. She has also written articles for major newspapers and magazines and given interviews on national television to educate and raise awareness about forensic science among the general public.
